Virgin London Marathon
The London Marathon was first run on 29th March 1981 and has been held in the spring of every year since. Event director Hugh Brasher hailed the 2017 Virgin Money London Marathon as “the greatest ever” in the history of the as he reflected on a day that smashed records across the board and saw more people than ever before make the 26-mile journey from Greenwich to Westminster. Five Harriers completed the marathon this year. Neil Burton was first Harrier home in 2:43:48 – closely followed by his running buddy Paul Gidlow in 2:50:38. Lindsey Clegg was first Harrier lady home in 3:06:21. She was followed by Nidia Veitch in 3:29:01 and Charlie Beard in 6:36:22.
This marathon is a two-lap course and is very flat for the PB chasers. As always, the event is run on Blackpool’s Promenade passing all the great landmarks and tourist spots. Kristian Henry completed the course in 3:41:55.
