The Northern Jumble
Organised by the ‘It’s Grim Up North Running’ team. Starting in the lovely town of Slaithwaite in Huddersfield, runners enjoyed an autumnal out and back run along the narrow Huddersfield Canal. With a reduced price and a choice of 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon or ultra there was a distance for every ability. On completing the chosen distance runners could select one of the medals designed for its Grim Up North Running, updated with a Northern Jumble Ribbon. Two Harriers took part in the 10K race. Philip Ramsden finished in 57:22 and Sarah Papadimos in 59:37.

Manchester Half Marathon
Sunny skies and perfect weather welcomed 8,000 runners who took part in the Manchester Half Marathon on the famously flat, fast and friendly course. With only a 41-metre elevation across the 13.1-mile course, the Manchester Half Marathon has become the race of choice for beginners, charity runners and elite athletes looking for a PB or qualifying time. Kristian James Henry was first Harrier across the line in 1:38:41. He was followed by: Janette Freeman 1:44:43 and Victoria Brides 2:07:53.
With is downhill start into the busy city centre and out into the beautiful surrounding countryside, runners love the Leicester marathon experience. Two Harriers took part this year. Bev Hurst and Steve Raby both crossed the line in 3:31:09.
Post Hill 5K Challenge
The Post Hill Challenge is a 5k off road race and involves 2 climbs of the famous Post Hill. it is organised by Pudsey Pacers. Two Harriers took part this year. Chris Smith, finishing in 28:03 and Joanne Kasey in 34:24.
Bridlington Half Marathon
Bridlington Half Marathon was first held in 1983 and still attracts a large field of runners. The local football team originally staged the race, but for many years it has been organised by members of Bridlington Road Runners for the enjoyment of runners throughout the region. The course starts on the seafront then heads off out into the countryside via Sewerby, Flamborough and Bempton before returning to Bridlington. One more loop out to Sewerby, passing through Sewerby Hall grounds this time, before returning to Bridlington and the seafront finish. Donna Milner finished in 2:04:47.
British Fell Relay Championships 2017
Two hardy teams of Horsforth Harriers tackled this year’s British Fell Relay Championships over the knee-deep bogs and ankle breaking terrain of Wales and Snowdonia. The event was held in Llanberis, northwest Wales on 15th October.
The relay consists of 4 ‘legs’ with several checkpoints to reach during each before returning to the finish and tagging your next teammates. The legs were structured as follows:
Leg 1 – Solo (8.9km distance / 707m ascent)
Leg 2 – Pairs (14.9km / 900m)
Leg 3 – Paired Navigation (no one knows until you get the map as you start!)
Leg 4 – Solo (8.35km / 512m)
Team results were as follows:
Horsforth Team A Mixed Ruth Moran/(Lindsey Clegg, Caroline Thomas,)/(Nathan Crossley, James Hingley,)/Iain Pender – 6:28:48. Finished 120th.
Horsforth Team B Mixed (any combination) (Tom X Feather/(Amy Hardy, Angela Pattinson,)/(Keith Park, James Mangeolles,)/Ron Taverner) – 7:18:13. Finished 159th.
176 teams finished.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park 5K
A fun and friendly 5k in the grounds of the Yorkshire Wildlife Park all in support of the Yorkshire Wildlife Park Foundation. This was a sell out event in 2017 with 1000 runners taking part. With around 3k of the route in the park runners got to see plenty of animals. Jacqueline Stack finished in 32:55.
