Run Bolton Abbey 2017
A lovely morning for the inaugural Run Bolton Abbey event, with choices of a 2-mile fun run, 10k, 10 mile or half-marathon. The routes were a mixture of paths, tracks, woodland trails and open land. Runners experienced the beauty of Strid Wood, Dicken Dike, the Valley of Desolation, the Launde Plantation and a stretch of Barden Fell.
Unfortunately, runners did report a few organisational issues with congestion and queues at stiles midway through the race where the different routes converged. That said, the race was apparently superbly marshalled and hopefully the organisers will learn from their mistakes for next year. On the positive side, the scenery was stunning and ultimately raised money for a good cause – Sue Ryder Manorlands. We had five Harriers taking part in both the 10-mile and half-marathon races.
Neal Edmondson finished second in the 10-mile event – in a time of 1:11:20. He was followed by Lee Greenhalgh 1:25:13 and Kristian James Henry 1:27:05. Philip Boynton finished 7th in the half-marathon, finishing in 1:37:48. He was followed by Theresa Duckett in 2:30:58.
The Roaches Fell Race
An out and back category BL 15-mile fell race with 3,700 feet of ascent. Timothy Knighton completed the course in 03:20:23.
