We were in Barnstaple visiting relatives so I thought I would combine a bit of parkrun tourism with my 200th run. Around 200 runners and lots of tourists – the first person I saw had a Valley Striders vest on. About 40 runners put their hands up for visiting runners – can’t miss the chance of a new parkrun. Then milestone runners were announced, a 50 and a 100 and they were called out. Knowing I was hundreds of miles from home I thought I could keep a low profile until the race director said that a Philip Ramsden had been in touch … They then explained that at Barnstaple they had a tradition – all milestone runners got to wear a superman cape and were we happy with that. We agreed (I thought they were joking) and the capes were produced. Although it is harder to run a drizzly 5K with a red velvet cape the support was great and I really enjoyed a more memorable parkrun than I had planned.
