John Carr Series Race 1
The John Carr races are a friendly series of three 5k races, held on the first three Wednesday evenings in May (3rd, 10th and 17th in 2017). The races are held in memory of a former Saltaire Striders member who tragically died aged 30. This year, the races begin and end at Esholt Hall, a 20-minute walk or 10-minute jog from the Apperley Bridge station end of the Yorkshire Water site.
It was a good turnout for the first race with 17 Harriers taking part. Ed Newbould was first Harrier home in 18:31. He was followed by: Martin Critchley 18:47, Aisling Wall 18:45 (3rd FSEN), Steve Raby 18:57, Dan Binks 19:21, James Mangeolles 19:54, Ron Taverner 20:11, Lindsey Clegg 20:37, David Womersley 20:50 (3rd M60), Jonathan Eagle 21:05, Catherine Garbutt 21:29, Rob Webster 22:31, Kevin Watson 23:44, Gini Knight 24:42, Tommy Dickson 27:07, Sam Foster 27:08 (PB) and Jacqueline Stack 32:29. Superbly organised as always by Saltaire Striders, 417 finished.
