Another year, another successful ABC!
Apperley Bridge Canter
Our very own club race returned for its 15th year and was another pre-race sell-out thanks to the brilliant efforts of the race committee and social media team. The race once again received fantastic feedback from runners and was praised for the excellent organisation and enthusiastic team of marshals!
The Apperley Bridge Canter (more colloquially known as the ‘ABC’) is a challenging race of approximately 10km, largely off-road along woodland tracks in a rural part of the Aire Valley. It attracts runners from clubs across Yorkshire, as well as increasing numbers of unattached runners. The race is organised annually by Horsforth Harriers from its established base at Woodhouse Grove School, Apperley Bridge.
This year’s race was won by Valley Striders’ John Hobbs in 35:03. The ladies race was won by Jen Whiteman of Chapel Allerton RC in 42:18.
Only two Harriers took part in the race this year. Paul Gidlow finished in 38:39 (3rd MV40) and Hilary Wharam in 1:41:20. 462 finished.
The ever-popular ABC cake stall and employer matched contribution raised a total of £720 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Thanks to Fiona Waterhouse and team for their efforts.
Also, a huge thank you to all those who turned out to marshal and gave up their time to make the event another resounding success for the club. Until next year!
