Another year, another successful ABC!
The Apperley Bridge Canter (more colloquially known as the ‘ABC’) is a challenging race of approximately 10km, largely off-road along woodland tracks in a rural part of the Aire Valley. It attracts runners from clubs across Yorkshire, as well as increasing numbers of unattached runners. The race is organised annually by Horsforth Harriers from its established base at Woodhouse Grove School, Apperley Bridge.
This year’s race was won by Pudsey & Bramley’s Joe Baxter in 33.52. First lady was Alice Leake (Leeds City AC) in 39:20. 442 runners finished.
Five Harriers ran this year. Paul Gidlow was first Harrier home in 41.36. He was followed by: Lindsey Clegg 42.22 (1st F35), Hayley Lawrence 45:42, Laura Hughes 1.00.22 and Hilary Wharam 1.45.30.

Thanks to all those who turned out to marshal and gave up their time to make the event another resounding success for the club. It was the first time in its 14 year history that the race sold out prior to the event.
A message from Marie Hart on behalf of the race committee:
“A massive thank you to all Horsforth Harriers who volunteered in whatever capacity and that extends to any of your family and friends who also gave up their time. You not only showed enthusiastic, friendly support to everyone, you also carried out your role correctly, making it all seamlessly come together. That’s why the runners have been glowing in their comments about you and the race.
I would like to give a special mention to my senior zone marshals, Catherine Gray, Alison Traynor, Jacqueline Stack, Aisling Wall, Carol Ramsden, Helen Fagg and Emma Harrop who took on extra responsibilities this year. You all did an excellent job.
Also, a big thank you to Tony Hazell, Steven Allen and Fiona Waterhouse for their great work on pre-race promotion, ensuring this year’s race was sold out prior to the event.”
