Brass Monkey Half Marathon
A cold and bright January morning heralded the start of the 34th Brass Monkey Half Marathon, organised by York Knavesmire Harriers.
Well done to all the Harriers who braved the Brass Monkey. First Harrier home was Neil Burton with a stonking 1:18:21 (that’s sub 6 min miles all the way). First lady was Bev Hurst with another PB crusher at 1:36:46. The full results were as follows: Neil Burton 1:18:21, Mark Monaghan 1:19:10, Steve Raby 1:23:21 (3rd M55), Tony Hazell 1:25:29, Jonathan Eagle 1:35:31, Beverly Hurst 1:36:46 (PB), Chris Kilner 1:39:44, Jim Hopkinson 1:41:59, Fiona Dickie 1:41:56, Helen Barber 1:43:54, Jill Hobson 1:46:53, Lee Beetham 1:50:11 and Lindsey Lobley 2:00:38.
Essar Four Villages Half Marathon
After the cancellation of the 2015 event, the Essar Four Villages Half returned on Sunday 17th January. The event welcomed just over 1700 runners to the quiet Cheshire lanes. Martin Critchley was the only Harrier in attendance, completing the course in 01:34:36.
The 33rd Soreen Stanbury Splash also took place on 17th January. Once again it was decided to use the Stoop route because of the wintry conditions. Tom Adams won the race for the fourth time cruising across the finish line in 31.14. World Masters Champion Helen Berry not only won the ladies race but also broke the FV40 record by over a minute which had stood for ten years. Theresa Duckett was the sole Harrier in attendance, completing the challenging five mile course in 55:53.
